I don’t think anyone will miss 2020. It has been a challenging year for our school as well, but we learned a lot going through the ordeal, and we were able to even expand the way we provide lessons to our students in the process. I would like to share some thoughts on 2020 and some insights to plans for 2021. I would like to start by expressing my sincere appreciation for your dedication and loyalty throughout the year. I always knew that we had a very strong student base at our school and a resilient team of instructors, and this was really evident throughout 2020. As you know the government mandated lockdown was imposed on all schools and most businesses in March. I felt it would be important for our students to continue training in Taekwon-Do, so we took steps to implement remote learning utilising Google Classroom and Zoom. This was achieved by lots of hard work by Black Belts and Instructors who recorded training resources for students to utilise remotely. My initial aim was to make sure our students didn't lose what they had learnt already but as we became better at utilising the online teaching tools our students were able to continue their progress in Taekwon-Do. We also had several key events in 2020 including two colour belt gradings and our black belt grading. When restrictions changed, we moved to providing some classes directly in the Dojang with all social distancing protocols implemented. This was a huge success and I want to thank all the students, parents and guardians as well as our instructors for the support in making this happen. 2020 presented us with some unexpected challenges but coming up with effective ways to deal with those challenges has made us stronger as an organisation and improved us as a teaching institution. 2021 has started with further restrictions and challenges however we continue with our online classes and encourage students to participate and improve their knowledge of the art. Don’t forget that the tenets of Taekwon-Do will support you throughout these challenging times. Classes return on Monday January 11, 2021 and the full schedule is available on our Website and Google Classroom. I look forward to working with you in 2021 to continue our progress in Taekwon-Do as well as developing character and resilience further. For now, stay safe and well. Yours sincerely, Cyril We are delighted to announce the our Senior Instructor, Mary O'Brien has been awarded the Noel Maher Memorial Trophy for student of the year 2020!
Mary has been involved in all functions of the school over the past 12 months, helping to bridge the gap left since the passing of our dear friend Master Noel Maher. Mary has helped countless students to achieve their potential and prepare for their gradings in the unusual circumstances we find ourselves in this year. We appreciate everything you do for the school Mary. Thanks!! Good evening to all students and parents.
